Passed away in June 2019.

Martin served in the RAF between 1952 and 1956 in the RAF Police. During this time, he was posted to Fontainebleau to the Aircent Police. He was a keen motorcyclist as his former colleagues at Camp Guynemer will remember. Shortly after leaving the RAF he moved to the USA where he worked as a mechanic and then Salesman in the car industry. While there he travelled extensively throughout the States. In 1962 he returned to the UK and joined the Metropolitan Police serving at West End Central and later at Sydenham and Southwark Crown Courts. Martin met and Married Patricia in 1970 and they had 49 happy years together. On retirement from the Police Martin did voluntary work for the National Trust and for the Tenterdon and East Sussex Railway. In 2004 following contact from John Day, he joined the FVA and with Patricia enjoyed a few trips to Fontainebleau and of course the reunions.

Patricia enjoyed the meetings and the chance to meet Martins former colleagues and their Wives.

Patricia said it was a great privilege to watch proceedings at the Arc de Triumph which the FVA attended and took part in.

After Martin passed away his ashes were laid to rest in the Memorial Garden of the RAF Chapel in

Biggin Hill. Patricia thinks Martin would be pleased to know that he was laid to rest within “earshot” of Spitfires taking off and landing.
